ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE COMMISSION ON LINGUISTIC BIBLIOGRAPHY

  • The Team of the Commission on Linguistic Bibliography of the International Committee of Slavists (composition of the team varies) is characterised by high level of qualifications, not limited only to Slavic linguistics. The specialists in information science, bibliography, as well as IT specialists care about the extension of the Commission members’ competences in the field of rules of development of the Slavic linguistic bibliography, and also Polish and international bibliographic standards, by providing consultation and organizing training.
  • The Team of the Commission on Linguistic Bibliography of the International Committee of Slavists (composition of the team varies) is characterised by high level of qualifications, not limiting only to Slavic linguistics. The specialists in information science, bibliography, as well as IT specialists care about the extension of the Commission members’ competences in the field of rules of development of the Slavic linguistic bibliography, and also Polish and international bibliographic standards, by providing consultation and organizing training. Slavic linguistic bibliography have been published (Warsaw, 1995-2003; the last volume has 870 pages and includes 7497 records).
  • The online bibliographic information system of Slavic linguistics iSybislaw is affiliated to the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, however, from the beginning (since the start of the system in 2007) the extension of the information collection is conducted in cooperation (and in participation) with the members of the Commission, mainly with linguists from abroad. This cooperation is based primarily on the development of bibliographic descriptions of the documents that have been published outside Poland. The bibliographic database of world Slavic linguistics currently contains an information collection of over 23 000 records.
  • The Commission on Linguistic Bibliography initiates and carries out the work on creating an effective information retrieval language for the documentation system. It organizes meetings of members of the team and academic workshops, also co-organizes international sessions and conferences in the field of modern Slavic linguistic bibliography. Recent academic events include co-organized international conferences: Nowoczesne systemy slawistycznej informacji bibliograficznej – dziś i jutro (Modern Slavic Bibliographic Information Systems - Today and Tomorrow) (two editions, Warsaw, 3-4.10.2013 and Warsaw, 8-9.10.2015), Українська термiнологiя i сучаснiсть (Ukrainian Terminology and Contemporaneity) (Kiev, 22-24.04.2015), Slawistyka w przestrzeni cyfrowej (Slavic Studies in the Digital Area) (Warsaw, 5-6.09.2016), Wokół systemów informacyjno-wyszukiwawczych i słowotwórstwa (On Information Retrieval Systems and Word Formation) (Warsaw, 8.09.2017), and the international academic seminar Бази даних i системи для потреб сучасного мовознавства (Databases and Systems for the Needs of Modern Liguistics) (Kiev, 13-14.06.2017). Articles based on the texts of the conference papers are published in a special monothematic volume of the journal "Studia z Filologii Polskiej i Słowiańskiej" (2014, vol. 49), in the journal "Українська мова" (2016, 2017), and in the post-conference volumes (in print).
  • A manifestation of scientific and organizational activities of the Commission are thematic blocks on the congresses of Slavists. The Commission on Linguistic Bibliography has organized thematic blocks during the last two congresses: XIV International Congress of Slavists in Ohrid (10-16.09.2008), and the XV International Congress of Slavists in Minsk (20-27.08.2013). The texts of the papers presented in Ohrid were published in the journal "Zagadnienia Informacji Naukowej" (2007, No. 2), the papers presented in Minsk were published in the journal "Slavia Orientalis" (2013, No. 2 and 4).
